Bill Rodgers

Bill Rodgers is one of the most decorated American long distance runners in history. He is a four-time winner of the Boston Marathon, most notably winning three consecutive times from 1978 to 1980, and a four-time consecutive winner of the New York City Marathon from 1976 to 1979. Rodgers also won the Fukuoka Marathon in 1977, becoming the first athlete to win all three major marathons at the same time.

With a time of 2:09:27 at the 1979 Boston Marathon, Rodgers held the record for the fastest marathon run by an American.

Dick Beardsley

Dick Beardsley was the co-winner of the inaugural London Marathon in 1981, where he tied Inge Simonsen with a time of 2:11:48. He placed second in the 1982 Boston Marathon, losing to Alberto Salazar by one second in the Duel in the Sun.

​Between his races in London and Boston, Beardsley won the Grandma’s Marathon in consecutive years. His time of 2:09:37 in 1981 wasn’t beaten for 33 years until it was finally broken in 2014.
